ABOUT THE CONCEPT DESIGNS
On the next page, we’ll show you the four conceptual approaches that we want the community’s input on. We developed these based on what we learned from you: residents told us the intersection feels confusing and unsafe, and many avoid it or cut through it rather than crossing directly. That matches what the data shows. During the recent years that we studied, the most common vehicle-to-vehicle crashes at Andrew Square are angle crashes, and 70% of crashes involving people outside of cars resulted in injury. Today, the intersection has more than 20 vehicle/pedestrian conflict points and more than 60 vehicle/vehicle conflict points.
Each of the four conceptual approaches all focus on improving safety, and accomplish this goal in different ways. There is no right answer, which is why we need your input! After you review the concepts on the next page, we’ll ask you about your priorities for the future of Andrew Square, then we’ll ask for your opinion on the concepts themselves.
